From our 3-star hotel in Montbard
Opportunities for escape and discovery in the heart of Burgundy
Just one hour from Paris in the TGV and 2 hours 45 minutes by car, our hotel in Montbard in the Auxois region is the perfect pied-à-terre from which to discover Burgundy. The Auxois region is a real open-air history book, at the intersection of places and eras that transformed this magnificent region nestled in the foothills of the Morvan.
During your stay at Hotel de l’Ecu, you will be able to explore the pretty little town of Montbard on foot, through which runs the river Brenne and the Burgundy Canal. The city, which is the birthplace of Georges-Louis Leclerc, Count of Buffon, is built on a hillside dominated by the vast Park created in the 18th century by this notable local figure.
Less than 30 km from the town, you can visit the Abbey of Fontenay, a UNESCO world heritage site, Bussy-Rabutin castle, the MuséoParc Alésia archaeological museum, the fortified town Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, voted one of France’s Most Beautiful Villages, Semur-en-Auxois, a medieval town that dresses up every year to celebrate Les Fêtes de la Bague (Festival of the Ring).
Slightly further away, Burgundy's Route des Grands Crus, which is celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2017 and the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, Dijon, Beaune and its Hospices, the beautiful nature in Morvan regional nature reserve...
Burgundy also offers a network of cycle paths and greenways unique in France... undoubtedly the best way to explore and marvel in Burgundy’s treasures by taking the time to discover them!
